Game'd - Case Study

Project Overview:

Game’d is a dating app designed exclusively for gamers, connecting individuals who share a passion for video games and geek culture.

The app aims to foster meaningful connections through shared interests, incorporating gaming-related features like matchmaking based on favorite genres, co-op event invitations, and in-app achievements. The project’s goal was to create an engaging platform where gamers feel at home, both socially and aesthetically.

Team Structure and Roles:

The team consisted of 6 members: A project manager, 2 lead graphic designers, and 3 UX/UI designers.

My role as a UX/UI designer focused on conducting research on the target audience and understanding their needs to incorporate it into the product design. I also focused on creating the final design and prototyped product.

My Contributions:

  • Conducted user research to identify gamers’ dating needs and frustrations with existing platforms into an empathy map.
  • Designed wireframes and interactive prototypes using Figma, prioritizing intuitive navigation and visually appealing interfaces.
  • Collaborated with the team to ensure accurate implementation of interactive elements, including matchmaking filters and profile customization.

Design Process:

1. Empathize: Conducted surveys with several gamers to understand their dating challenges and app expectations. We later developed an empathy map out of the collected data.

2. Define: Identified key user needs, such as finding matches based on specific games and avoiding toxic interactions.

3. Ideate: Brainstormed features like gamer tags, genre-based matchmaking, and co-op session scheduling.

4. Prototype: Built wireframes and low-fidelity prototypes, refining them based on user feedback.

Final Product:

The app design featured an intuitive onboarding process, personalized matchmaking filters, and a profile system emphasizing favorite games and gaming styles. Gamified elements, such as achievements and co-op invitations, created an engaging user experience.
